Lion and bears give bite to French basin

French faience basin – €31,000 (£26,725) at Fraysse.

Dating from c.1700, it features moulded lion mask handles, formal lambrequin decoration to the exterior and an interior scene of a bear hunt after elements of engravings by the Florentine artist Antonio Tempesta.

An €9000-12,000 estimate was overturned as the bidding rose to €31,000 (£26,725) at the sale on April 10.
