A French term meaning “lost wax”. Refers to the process of making a model of a sculpture in wax and covering the model with a mold, usually clay. The wax would then be melted away and molten bronze is poured into the clay mold. When the bronze hardened, the clay would be broken away, revealing the sculpture.
