Sir Sidney: The Kelly of Art

If there was a Ned Kelly in art, it would definitely be Sidney Robert Nolan. His early career included designing sets and costumes for a production of the ballet Icarus. He continued painting even after being drafted for duty in the Citizen Military Forces in 1942. However, he never returned to his base after being on leave. He was declared a deserter.
