Martin Brothers’ wally birds on parade in New Jersey

A single-owner collection of 27 pieces of Martin Brothers art pottery will be included in the Design sale series to be held by Rago auctions in Lambertville, New Jersey.

The Andrew Furer and Elle Douglas collection, which has been curated and comes to the rostrum via AD Antiques of Chipping Campden, will be offered on September 21.

There are 22 of the famous ‘wally bird’ vessels in the collection including a rare triple bird form of 1914.

This tall 14in (35cm) high single bird inscribed and dated Martin Bros. London Southall 9-1898 to the head and base was acquired at auction at Woolley & Wallis in June 2014. This time around the estimate in the Rago sale is $45,000-65,000.
