House up at auction reveals shock mouse

This novelty picture on offer at Tennants with an estimate of £200-300 has an unusual surprise.

The concertina-cut novelty pictured here is one in which a painted roundel of a cottage pulls up to reveal a large mouse.

It forms the last page of an otherwise relatively unassuming scrapbook of 19th century origin containing verses, drawings and so on.

Estimated at £200-300, the scrapbook is part of a book sale to be held by North Yorkshire auction house Tennants (20% buyer’s premium) of Leyburn on March 15.
