Buck’s ‘The Good Earth’ makes rare appearance in San Francisco

This 1931 copy of Pearl S Buck’s The Good Earth sold for $2400 (£1895) at a PBA Galleries auction.

Published in 1931, Pearl S Buck’s ‘The Good Earth’ was the best-selling novel in the US for both that and the following year, as well as the winner of a Pulitzer Prize.

A copy offered by PBA Galleries (20/15% buyer’s premium) of San Francisco on June 27 showed a number of chips to the jacket (above) and other defects of condition.

It sold for $2400 (£1895) and only three signed and inscribed copies have made a little more at auction.
