Artefacts collected during extensive Indian travels for sale

On May 17 Stair Galleries in Hudson, New York, is selling the collection of Indian artefacts from the estate of David Swope of Ossining, NY.

An Indian bronze standing figure of the deity Ganesha from Tamil Nadu is estimated at $8000-12,000 in the May 17 Stair Galleries auction.

Swope travelled extensively through India, living in Bombay (Mumbai) in the 1960s where he spent two and a half years in the Peace Corps, and set up a legal aid society.

Indian sculpture in bronze and stone and paintings will feature. Among the highlights is this 10½in (26cm) high bronze standing figure of the deity Ganesha from Tamil Nadu.

It has an estimate of $8000-12,000.
