It comes in a contemporary fitted case for Fossin et Fils, the firm founded by Jean-Baptiste Fossin (1786-1848) that is a predecessor of Chaumet.

The atelier was patronised by the Paris elite in the 1830s-40s when this archaeological revival piece was made.
